Volunteer with Us

Advocate with Us. Be MCYJ's voice in your community!

As we work to reform the justice system for kids in Michigan, we need your network, your skills, and your support.

By becoming a youth justice advocate, you will be able to support our legislative campaigns and public education efforts. Advocates can help in a wide variety of ways—everything from engaging legislators, sharing social media content, and helping to organize or supporting events.

What is an MCYJ Advocate?

Advocates support the mission of MCYJ by amplifying the organization's voice. Advocates may have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by amplifying MCYJ's presence on social media, attending public meetings (e.g., local and county government), hosting public education events, meeting with legislators, and more.

These activities not only help to raise awareness about our priorities, but they also provide opportunities to engage with community members and decision-makers to advocate for policies and practices that promote justice and equity. This is a great way to make a tangible impact on the juvenile justice system and support our mission.

What should I expect?

As an Advocate with MCYJ, you will have the opportunity to learn about and grow with the organization. You can expect:

  • MCYJ staff will provide a virtual training to ensure you have the skills and knowledge necessary to champion juvenile justice reform;

  • Remote volunteer opportunities will occur on a rolling basis; and

  • Limited in-person volunteer opportunities.
